SAWUBONA

Recent global events including Windrush scandal, Black Lives Matter movement, and the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted injustices present for UK minority ethnic communities. Additionally, the ongoing discussions in parliament surrounding the UK Assisted Dying Bill has also raised critical questions around access, choice and equity in palliative and end of life care, particularly for marginalised groups who face barriers to healthcare. The UK parliament has also released a statement on the financial pressures that hospices are facing, with an understanding that there are many inequities in end of life care. NHS England identified in their Ambitions for Palliative and End of Life Care Report (2021-2026) ‘fair access to end of life care’ as its second key ambition to be achieved.  Despite this, the delivery of care and support to minority ethnic individuals living with long-term or life-threatening conditions and those that are bereaved is not equitable.

In this one-day virtual conference the national SAWUBONA- Equity in Palliative Care for all Research Forum members in partnership with Hospice UK and Good Grief Festival, will showcase and debate the work currently being undertaken in tackling inequity in palliative care through research and future directions. This conference is suitable for academics, clinicians, early career researchers, post-graduate students, and anyone interested in equity in palliative care and bereavement support.
