A recent 'Night at the races' has raised an amazing £2,200 for local charity, LOROS Hospice.

The event, held in memory of Sharon Kenney who died at the Hospice at the end of March, was organised by Huey Caratella and Sharon's husband Stuart (who also recently completed the Leicester to Skegness chart cycle ride)

Huey said: "The race night, a silent auction with plenty of items up for bidding and buying and the raffle were the main fundraising ideas and were really enjoyed by the 150 people who attended.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to Leicester sports centre for the use of the venue at no cost and their continuing support.

"We are delighted with the amount we raised for such a great cause and are definitely aiming to make this an annual event."

Debbie Dickman, Fundraising Co-ordinator at LOROS said: "On behalf of LOROS, I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped to raise which will help us to continue providing the very best care and support for adults in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland with terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers."

"As an example, the £2,200 they raised could pay for 88 hours of care for one of our inpatients.

"Your contribution truly does make a difference."
