Jayne Buckley's idea to try and raise some money for the Hospice started off in a very small way but has raised a staggering £2,280 so far!
Jayne said "We have a decommissioned telephone box in the village, which is generally used as a small village library. Once I realised that wearing a mask was becoming the norm and would eventually be a requirement, I made a dozen or so and put them into the phone box so people could collect them. I asked for donations and after I posted it on our village Whatsapp group it kind of snowballed from there and I have become known in our village as the "Mask Lady."
"I eventually posted it onto my personal and small business (Handmade by Jayne) Facebook pages and it took off very quickly; through those social media outlets and general word of mouth people from all four corners of the UK and even a handful on the sunny island of Kefalonia in Greece are now wearing the masks.
"I had an enormously generous donation of fabrics from a lovely lady called Kate Morrish which has helped me to just keep on going and the total for LOROS just grew and grew."
Debbie Dickman, Fundraising Co-ordinator at LOROS, said: "Jayne tells me that since sending in her very generous donation, she has been approached with a few more requests so she has started a second "pot" of money. She jokingly said that she might look at getting some festive fabrics for later this year and I think that is a really great idea."
We would like to send a massive thank you to Jayne for everything she has done and continues to do, to raise much-needed funds for the Hospice.
LOROS has been hit incredibly hard by this pandemic; our shops have had to close temporarily, events have been cancelled and many of our supporters in the community have been unable to fundraise because of the lockdown and restrictions. We predict a loss of £2.3 million over the course of the financial year so every single penny that we receive in donations is hugely appreciated.
