Building on the success of Swithland School’s successful Scarecrow Trail of last year we present to you the Swithland Scarecrow Trail.
Through the Trail, we hope to raise some much-needed funds for LOROS and Rainbow’s Children’s Hospice.
You are invited to help us raise those funds by displaying a Scarecrow in Swithland from Wednesday 27th October until Saturday 30th October. Members of the public are going to be asked to follow the Trail and vote for their favourite Scarecrow – there will be a prize for the winning entry!
Taking part
If you would like to take part please design and make a Scarecrow based around the theme of a "Character from a Book"
Visitors to the Trail are asked to purchase a Scarecrow Trail passport upon which they can enter the number of the Scarecrow that they feel is the winning entry. There will also be a kiddies competition on the passport looking for clues attached to the individual Scarecrows. A prize will be awarded to the winning entry drawn from the hat!
The Trail itself will officially commence at 11.00 am and end at 4.00 pm on Saturday 30th when completed passports are to be handed in at either The Griffin Inn or Swithland Memorial Hall. The winning entry will be announced at 4.30 pm.
Refreshments
The Memorial Hall will be selling teas, coffees and cakes during the Trail day and there will also be a Tombola at The Griffin Inn. Donations are invited for the Tombola which can be left at 62 Main Street, Swithland. Donations of homemade cakes etc. can be taken to the Memorial Hall from 10.00 am on Saturday 30th October.
To enter
To enter your Scarecrow you will need to pre-register it with us to be allocated a Scarecrow entry number which is to be displayed with your Scarecrow from Wednesday 27th October until the Trail itself which will take place on Saturday 30th October.
Scarecrow entries are also invited from outside of Swithland village and can be displayed at either The Griffin Inn or Swithland Memorial Hall. All entries are to be pre-registered and displayed no later than 10.30 am on Saturday 30th October in order to take part in the competition.
If you’d like to take part but don’t fancy making a Scarecrow, could you host one in your front garden? If so, please let us know at the contact number below. This will allow entries from outside the Village to be displayed in any ‘gaps’ that might appear!
To register your Scarecrow please call Duncan on 07970 018787 or email duncan.keates@sky.com
Passports available to purchase on October 30th from both the Memorial Hall and The Griffin Inn at £1 each.
