It’s a happy place where sad things happen
Tracy Canham is a nurse on the Inpatient Ward. She wanted to tell the rest of the hospice a bit about what happens there.
“We look at the patients as people, what matters to them, matters to us.
Last year Jess Melbourne was a patient on our Ward. She was young and wanted to pack in a lot of living in the time she had left. She created a bucket list which included a day out to Skegness, a tattoo, a spa day and a champagne breakfast. When she died the remaining money she’d raised for her bucket list was gifted to LOROS by her mum, who wanted to use it to create a celebration box in her memory. Tracy, who was part of the team who cared for Jess and her family, took charge, working with the Fundraising team to order items.
“It’s known as Jess’s box. It contains all the things you need for a bit of a party, a bit of a treat. It’s got table cloths, cake stands, a tea set, cutlery, gin and wine glasses, bunting. We decided to buy it in a blue and orange colour scheme so it could be used by ladies or gentlemen. It’s for all manner of celebrations – date nights, afternoon tea, garden parties, birthday parties, anniversaries – everything and anything!”

New audit results board
The ward has had a new board designed to help share audit results with everyone. This was created by Alison Cooper and Chandrika Amalsadia. As soon as Q1 results are ready they will be added to the board for everyone to see.
