We are delighted to share that the Centre for Excellence’s very own Dr Zoebia Islam, has been  awarded an Associate Professor post at the University of Leicester. This is a significant promotion and a very well deserved acknowledgement of her achievements and skills.

Care project update

by Chandini Subramanyam

"Last month I attended the Young Carers' Futures Conference at the Etihad stadium in Manchester. The conference was pivotal to the research I am currently conducting in relation to exploring the mental health and mental health literacy of ethnically diverse young adult carers. I really enjoyed networking with practitioners, meeting Prof. Saul Becker (leading researcher in the field of young adult caring) and discussing topics surrounding mental health, identification of young carers and improving research around caring.

In October, I was invited on to BBC Radio Leicester's Shruti show! I was nervous about being live on the radio but really enjoyed talking with Shruti about the CARED project, which is the participant-facing element of my Ph.D. Shruti and I had an interesting discussion around improving the conversation around caring within ethnically diverse communities and providing people with courage to speak when they need help. I was also asked about the main outcome I wish to achieve from my Ph.D. and this is at the core of my research, which is to develop better, culturally-tailored service to support young adult carers and ultimately, influence policy."
