An annual festival in memory of a Great Dalby woman who died of ovarian cancer has raised £1,800 for three cancer charities.

The Burnhamfest family fun day and charity rugby match at Syston Rugby Club was held to celebrate the memory of Jackie Burnham, who lost her battle with cancer in 2006.

Roger Burnham, Jackie’s husband, said: “Because the event had to be pushed back to July 28, the turnout was down on the previous year, but we still managed to raise a brilliant total for charity.”

All money raised will go to Cancer Research UK, LOROS and the Ovarian Cancer Trust.

The event included a bouncy castle, hog roast, raffle and disco as well as live music performed by local bands Picto Mexico and Party in Paris.
