Staff at LOROS are calling on people within Market Harborough to help them shape the future of their services by identifying whether opening up a wellbeing centre in their area would be beneficial to their community.

LOROS is looking at expanding its services further across the county by potentially opening up a wellbeing centre, after acknowledging that their Groby Road Hospice can be difficult to reach by some people.

To help them put their potential plans in place, the Hospice will be conducting research within the Market Harborough area from today and over the next two weeks.

Director of Strategy and Development at LOROS, Karen Ashcroft said: “We’re asking residents and local groups in Market Harborough to get involved, have their say and help shape the future of our services here at LOROS.

“We have a three year strategy in place to develop our services beyond the Hospice walls and are keen to expand into the Market Harborough community. We really need help from the local residents to see if opening a wellbeing centre in their area would be worthwhile.”

Market Harborough residents are invited to answer a short three-question survey, which will be available on the LOROS website and across the Hospice’s social area pages.

In addition, those who live in the area and are on the Hospice’s digital database will receive an email containing the survey.

“While we acknowledge that there is a need for patients and carers to be supported closer to home, it’s the feedback we get from this specific research over the next few weeks that will help us identify whether investing time and money into opening a wellbeing centre in the area would be of value,” added Karen.

“The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and is extremely easy to access. “It really is so important to us to capture as much feedback from local residents as possible.”

The wellbeing centre will be available for anyone with a life-limiting illness to use, as well as their carers.

While it will not provide medical care, the services it hopefully will provide includes complementary therapy, bereavement support and enablement sessions, for example, breathlessness clinics and mobility advice.

The centre could also offer benefits advice, information on their wellbeing and lifestyle, as well as diet and general health tips. There will also be a social hub, café and shop.
