Joyce volunteers in the LOROS shop on Biggin Street in Loughborough. She works in the shop on a Monday afternoon and a Thursday morning, and has been volunteering there around two years.
She said: “I like meeting people and I like supporting a cause like LOROS. I’ve never wanted to sit around at home with nothing to do.
“I always listen to people carefully so I can answer their questions about what we have in the shop. It’s how you get to know your customers. And ours really like coming here. Particularly the students! When we reopened after lockdown, they all came back in and told us how they’d missed us! They come to us first for parties, balls, Halloween. They know what great bargains we have here!
“I really enjoy volunteering here. It keeps my brain alert which is so important.
“If you’ve got a few hours spare, come and put in a shift, it’s easy enough. If you’re retired, don’t wonder what to do at home, give us a few hours of your time. You’ll be rewarded in ways other than money!”
