A keen Tower Runner who moved from Taiwan to the UK late last year is hoping to conquer this year’s LOROS challenge and clinch that first place position.

Randall Vargas, who is originally from Costa Rica, is taking on this year’s LOROS Tower Run, having become known as a ‘Tower Run Legend’ in Taiwan.

The 29-year-old took on several Tower Run competitions in Taiwan, one of which was the Taipei 101 competition, in which his team won first place.

“By this time next year, I hope to be a Tower Run legend in the UK too,” says Rendall. “I’m hoping to win but anything under one-and-a-half minutes, I’ll be happy with. I’m feeling confident.”

Having met his British wife, Jemma, in Taiwan, Rendall moved to the UK in December last year and now lives in London.

“I don’t like running but I love competing,” he says.

“I live on the eighth floor of a building, so going up and down those stairs is training in itself. Plus, I’ve been going on the stair machine a lot.”

Randall says that not knowing his fellow competitors and not being familiar with St George’s Tower might go against him.

“It will be a nice experience and I’m looking forward to meeting other Tower Runners. I want to get some tips from them,” adds Randall, who admits he’s been trying to find videos of the event so he can study the layout of the stairs.

“If I don’t win this year, I’ll be back next year to become the champion.” LOROS Fundraising Co-ordinator Joshua Richardson said he is looking forward to seeing how Randall gets on at the event.

“It’s so great to hear such enthusiasm and excitement from people like Randall,” says Joshua.

“The beauty of this event is that everyone, of any capability can take part. Whether you’re a keen Tower Runner just like Randall, or a beginner, we welcome everyone to this event.” This year’s Tower Run will be taking place on Saturday 3rd July.
