Monday 4th October marks the start of national Hospice Care Week (4th-10th October 2021), an annual awareness-raising week to help raise the profile of hospice care across the UK.
A galaxy of spectacular Rockets will be touching down at Leicester’s National Space Centre on 9th-10th October for a final weekend of space-tastic fun!
One of the highlights of the Rocket Round Leicester art trail has been Moondance, a giant juke box shaped sculpture featuring the names of space-related songs. Organised by local charity LOROS Hospice, together with leading art event producers Wild in Art, Moondance is just one of 40 giant Rockets which are weaving their way across the city this summer.
"My mum, Ros Sherwin, was a district nurse. In May 2020, when she was 61, she went for a scan at Glenfield Hospital, and out of the blue she was told she had stage 4 lung cancer. It was a terrible shock."
It can’t have escaped many people that the city of Leicester has been inundated with 40 spectacular Rockets this summer. Now LOROS Hospice is developing the space theme with a ground-breaking first, launching messages into space.
"Considering she couldn't talk anymore, the nurses were still able to have a chat with her about her wishes, her family, her childhood and her favourite hobby which was gardening. It didn't matter that it took her a while to write down what she wanted to say, everyone gave her the time to be able to do this."

This morning, LOROS Hospice has announced a summer of fun as part of their Rocket Round Leicester art trail.
